AUGUST UPDATES & FIXES

The next time you log in to Wix, and fire up Rollover, you'll notice some small, but significant changes to the interface. While we were developing Rollover 2.0, it's likely that we became accustomed to the UI, and learnt to understand how to use the app without thinking. This wasn't the case for new users, and a fair few people reported that using the app was rewarding, but confusing at first.

So how did we address the UX problems?

1. We made the method of triggering effects much clearer. We added a toggle switch in the settings panel, with a heading that now reads: choose your effect trigger, and text on a switch that reads Rollover or Button.

2. We improved the UX when using the Design tab. Previously, if a user clicked out of the design tab, to another, (for example, layout) then, when they returned to the design tab, the sub menu (for example Fonts) was still open. This was confusing, so we changed it so that you're now presented with the first level in Design, and easier access to all the sub menu's, when you can edit images, fonts, borders and buttons. 3. We added Start & End preview buttons wherever we could, so that you're never far from being able to see how your widget looks easily

Technical fixes:

1. Speed isn't an issue, normally. Rollover is actually very lightweight, and now its lighter than ever because we minified the SVG files we use, dropping their size by 25-30%

2 If there is a speed problem, blame the network - and if this does happen, users will see the Wix preloader within one second of the page being served

New Features:

1. Atomic Pack: Our most spectacular effects set yet. Amaze your users with four sick (and we mean that) vertical transitions in SVG format. These really are next level.

2. Improved paragraph text editing power. We added a WYSIWYG panel, enabling you to format text just like in a word processor

3. Easily embed things such as Soundcloud & YouTube

Coming very soon

1. Ten new Transition Effects - we learnt from our experience building the first transition packs, and have come up with a stack of new styles to make you stand out.

2. Tile Effect - a contemporary take on tiles, you'll love what you can do with

3. Unsplash intergrtion - use images from the popular photo library, inside rollover

4. Native support for YouTube, create looping backgrounds of your videos, with or without sound, create unique covers and exciting transitions to reveal your latest vids.

What's Next? We're on a mission to bring advanced web animation to everyone, we're preparing for 5G with a fresh set of mobile first animations so you look good on the go, at speed. We're always looking for beta testers for the new features, if you'd like to join up, click here
