We are vets who care

We are a small, friendly team of vets and have been providing veterinary care in the area for over 30 years. Our aim is to provide a caring and quality veterinary service dedicated to the needs of our clients and their pets throughout all stages of their lives.

We do understand that coming into the clinic can potentially be an anxious time, particularly when your pet is ill, but we do our utmost to ensure each visit is as stress free and as positive an experience as possible.

All of our staff are pet owners themselves, so we understand that pets are honorary family members and that we want them to be as comfortable, happy and healthy as possible.

As with human medicine, prevention is better than cure. Regular health checks, keeping vaccines and anti-parasitic treatments up to date, using some sort of dental care (brushing, chews or dental biscuits) and monitoring bodyweight will help ensure your pet remains healthy and fulfils its maximum life expectancy.

When we do find disease, early detection and treatment usually mean less needs to be done to fix the problem, or for conditions that are managed rather than cured (eg arthritis, or chronic kidney disease) then early intervention increases longevity and slows down progression.

We will always discuss in detail all the options available, costs involved and assist you in making an informed decision that suits both you and your pet.

Blythwood Vets

Our Standards

Blythwood Vete

We have been internally auditing our routine surgical neutering procedures and monitoring post operative complications since 2005, and in fact our senior partner pioneered the idea of clinical auditing within the veterinary profession.

We are pleased to report that our incidence of post operative complications following neutering is well below the national average (though as we contribute to the national average, the better we do the better it gets!). We also regularly audit and review our protocols for treating common conditions including chronic kidney disease in cats, hypertension (high blood pressure), heart disease and obesity to ensure and maintain the best possible care for all our patients.

Our Community

We employ qualified veterinary nurses who are registered with the RCVS. This ensures the highest standard of care for patients and offers an assurance to clients, the public and employers about standards of behaviour and professional skills.

Our RVNs (Registered Veterinary Nurses) have a wealth of experience in monitoring patients both under anaesthesia or sedation and during periods of hospitalisation, and work closely with the veterinary surgeons that are always present on the premises at such times. Electronic patient monitoring equipment helps the team ensure an optimal level of care.

In the hospital environment, our RVNs’ extensive knowledge of animal welfare ensures that patients’ needs are prioritised. They are made to feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible during their stay with us and are looked after with the same kindness and consideration as if it were one of the practice staff’s own pets.

Blythwood Vets

We are accredited to General Practice Standard under the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons Practice Standard Scheme.

We work closely with the Middlesex North West branch of the RSPCA and assist them with caring for sick, stray, abandoned and neglected pets, and attending to injured wildlife.

We regularly fundraise for them with various projects- ask in branch for more information.

The RSPCA always have dogs, cats, rabbits and small furry pets that need rehoming, if you think you could give an animal a good home please do ask us for details.

We work closely with our suppliers to minimise deliveries and reduce packaging.

Within the clinic we recycle where possible and use low power LED spotlights to reduce electricity consumption and avoid unnecessary heat generation.

We have recently switched to digital xray units which not only produce better images, but also avoid the need to order, store, use and dispose of photographic chemicals. We regularly review how we can be more green.

Our Environment

Our Values

We believe that not just our vets and nurses, but all our staff play an important part in ensuring the well-being of your pet, from the moment you call us or walk in the door. We know that the knowledge, initiative and compassion of our staff is the most important tool we have and we need to ensure all of our staff are well trained and motivated.

Investors in People is the national quality standard which monitors how we develop and support our staff. Whilst we have been accredited by IiP for a number of years, in 2013 we achieved our long term goal of being awarded the IiP Gold standard, we are only the second veterinary surgery in the country to do so. We aim for our staff to be the best they can be and we are pleased that our efforts have been recognised in this way.
